The mines are located in a mountainous area of central Peru approximately 200 miles east of Lima. The nearest town is Tarma and the area has good roads. Mining in the area dates back to the 16th century (mostly small and medium sized mines). The two (2) mines produce ore (gold of reasonably high grades) from three (3) open pits. The historical output has been approximately 16.8 grams of gold per ton. In addition to gold, the area also has silver, copper and iron oxide deposits. Historically, most of the mining has been done by subcontractors who provided all of the personnel and equipment.
