Partners wanted to build and develop an alternative energy business based on bio-mass fuel pellets. The manufacturing of wood pellets, primarily for heating, started between 1973 and 1979 with the first US oil crisis. The market and demand for wood pellets has fluctuated just as the price of crude oil has. In 2005, the demand for wood pellets dropped substantially. However, within the aftermath of hurricane Katrina and coinciding with steadily rising oil prices, the demand has risen steadily. The demand however is not strictly for residential purposes. Companies are increasingly turning to wood pellets for co-generation power plants.
