Business Summary
The recently privatized pig-breeding complex has an output capacity of 54 thousand heads per year out of 3600 sows parent stock. This complex is one the largest in Moldova with the buildings and constructions in operating standing, which is now temporarily closed down.
As a traditional exporter of pork in the past, Moldova provides excellent conditions for development of livestock meat production: strong agricultural production of fodder grain, favorable climate conditions, relatively low cost of human resources, steady and continuous increase of population’s income, as well as improvement of economic situation that causes structural modifications in production, reconstruction of enterprises, implementation of new technologies and progressive methods in economy management.
The unique geopolitical location of the farm in Moldova offers large export possibilities:
- Free trade with CIS countries provides the opportunity of delivering pork free of tariff rate, quotas and custom duties to Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and others.
- The autonomous trade preferences with EU exempt the local production of taxes when exported to the European Union.
After the transition fall in pork production in the nineties, the domestic market is saturated with import meat, while the fast developing meat-processing industry is lacking high quality indigenous raw material. The target is to revive and stimulate the local producers to cover at least the domestic market. At the same time, Moldova exports grain and cereals that can be used at the local market as fodder.
An important advantage is considerable tax exemptions, incentives and subsidies that are applied to pig raisers, as it is deemed to be a strategic branch for the country.
